The mridanga is revered as one of eight sacred instruments, and in India it is even given puja (worship). The mridanga is a clay drum. This is a very ancient drum with perfect acoustics. The most ancient mention of Mridanga occurs long before the beginning of our era.
When you spend many hours with your Mridanga, it will become apart of you, you will learn to feel it, your energy will live in it. Therefore, do not turn your instrument into a slot machine. Any musician will agree. However, beware of excessive fanaticism. The mercy of the Lord, and service to people, is the highest dharma.
